Written Instructions
Welcome to the UNIFYZE survey platform accessibility guide. This guide will help you understand how to navigate the survey system using assistive technologies like screen readers and magnification tools.
What to Expect: When you click the "Start Survey" button on this page, you will be taken to a live conversation interface where you will interact with a virtual agent. The system will first ask for microphone and camera permissions from your browser. For the best experience, choose "Allow while visiting the page" or "Always allow" when prompted for microphone access. Camera access is optional and can be disabled if preferred.
The Survey Interface: Once you start the survey, you will be presented a three-panel layout. On the left is the virtual agent display, which shows the current conversation state through visual indicators. The center area contains your camera feed if video is enabled. On the right side is the live transcript panel, which displays all conversation text in real time as you and the agent speak.
Getting Started with the Conversation: After granting permissions, the interface will load and the virtual agent will welcome you to begin the conversation. You will need to wait for the agent to speak first, then you can respond using the microphone controls.
Essential Keyboard Shortcuts: The system provides comprehensive keyboard navigation. Press Alt+1, or Option+1 on Mac, to activate your microphone and begin speaking. Press the same combination again to send your response. Alt+H, or Option+H, opens the help menu with all available shortcuts. Alt+5 toggles your camera on or off. Alt+6 provides contextual conversation guidance. Alt+9 toggles accessibility settings including high contrast and large text modes. Alt+0 ends the current session.
For Screen Reader Users: The interface includes proper ARIA labeling and live announcement regions. The transcript section is marked as a live log region, so new messages will be announced automatically. You can navigate through the transcript using arrow keys or by jumping to the "Live Transcript" heading. All buttons include descriptive labels and keyboard shortcuts are announced when activated.
For Screen Magnifier Users: The interface is fully responsive and works well with magnification. The transcript panel can be resized for better visibility using Alt+2. Text size can be increased using the accessibility settings or the dedicated text size button. The three-panel layout remains functional even when magnified.
Conversation Flow: When the session begins, wait for the virtual agent to speak first. You will hear an audio cue when the agent finishes speaking, indicating it is your turn to respond. Press Alt+1 to activate your microphone, speak your response, then press Alt+1 again to send it. The system will process your response and the agent will reply.
Accessibility Settings: The system includes high contrast mode for better visibility, large text mode for easier reading, transcript priority mode that expands the transcript panel, and audio feedback that can be enabled or disabled based on your preferences. These settings are saved automatically for future sessions.
Troubleshooting: If you experience audio issues, check that your microphone and speakers are working properly before starting. If the system becomes unresponsive, you can always restart by pressing Alt+0 to end the session safely. For technical support, contact your survey administrator.
This completes the accessibility instruction guide. The system is now ready for your use. Thank you for your participation.
